CHAPTER HISTORY
The Chesapeake-Virginia Beach (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was founded by twenty-one charter members who began organizing at a meeting held at the Indian Creek Apartments Clubhouse on September 21, 1983. A hurricane alert was out for the evening, but the brothers weathered the storm.
Six meetings were held between the initial meeting and the chartering banquet. As commitment was exhibited to other brothers, the ranks of the alumni colony grew. A chartering ceremony banquet was held at Norfolk State University in the West Campus Dining Hall on Sunday afternoon, April 1, 1984. Senior Grand Vice-Polemarch James B. Abram, Sr. was the keynote speaker. Eastern Province Polemarch Clarence F. Nelson, Jr. presented the charter. Both brothers were instrumental in getting the charter approved by the Grand Board of Directors.
Forty years later as of April 1, 2024, the chapter continues to operate and adhere to the goal of achievement in every field of human endeavor. At the 2019 Eastern Province Council, the chapter received the “Medium Chapter of the Year” award.
